Sponsorship requests must be submitted in writing at least 90 days before the event. Requests are reviewed weekly.

Each year, The Washington Trust Company provides two $5,000 scholarships to help two area students finance their college educations at Bryant University and the University of Rhode Island. Scholarships are awarded to area students who have been admitted and have committed to Bryant University and The University of Rhode Island.

From time to time, Washington Trust replaces its computers, office furniture and other office equipment. Once the new equipment is installed, we are able to donate the previous generation of equipment to local nonprofit organizations that have expressed a need. All of the computers and other equipment we donate are in good working condition.

Washington Trust is committed to helping low-and moderate-income borrowers purchase their own homes. We work closely with the borrowers and with organizations such as the Federal Housing Authority, Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation (RIHMFC) and Habitat for Humanity. With RIHMFC, we co-sponsor First-Time Homebuyer seminars to help borrowers understand the many aspects of the home buying process, including credit criteria, budgeting, and the responsibilities of homeownership. For graduates of the homeownership program, Washington Trust offers borrowers a $100 credit toward application fees.
Washington Trust is proud to participate in America's Promise; the national not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of our nation's youth. As a Bank of Promise, we provide financial and volunteer support to children and youth-related activities, including:

Through the American Bankers Association's "Teach Children to Save" and "Get Smart About Credit" programs, Washington Trust bankers visit schools throughout Rhode Island and Connecticut to teach students about the importance and value of saving money and establishing credit.
Each spring, beginning in 2001, Washington Trust hosts a month-long drive to collect jars of peanut butter for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
In 2001, 2 tons of peanut butter was collected, and each year the donations have increased. In 2008, a record of 13 tons of peanut butter was collected. Washington Trust has collected over 57 tons of peanut butter for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Washington Trust has been recognized by the United Way as a Platinum Company for the contributions made by the Bank and its employees. Historically, 2 of every 3 Washington Trust employees contribute to the United Way campaign each year. Through our support, we assist dozens of United Way agencies in our area. Our employees also volunteer their time to participate in the United Way Corporate Campaign and Dare to Care days.
